Scholar Who Walks at Night is a 2015 South Korean television series based on the manhwa of the same name written by Jo Joo-hee and illustrated by Han Seung-hee.

Synopsis:
Set in an alternate dimension of the Joseon dynasty, Jo Yang-sun (Lee Yu-bi) is the daughter of a nobleman whose family loses everything when her father is framed for treason. Yang-sun begins to dress like a man after a shaman recommend to her parents so she could live after being bitten by a wild animal and being unconscious for a while. Later she become a bookseller in order to make money to sustain her family. That's when she meets the handsome and mysterious scholar Kim Sung-Yeol, who works in the Hongmungwan.
Kim Sung-Yeol (Lee Jun-Ki) is a vampire, he's on the mission to kill Gwi, an evil vampire who rules the nation through the royals without the knowledge of the people. He is seeking the diary of his dead friend the Crown Prince Junghyun, which has the secret plan to kill him. After many unsuccessful tries, he decides to hire one of the best bookseller of the city in order to get the diary and that's when he meets Yang-sun.He is also haunted by the death of his first love, Lee Myung-hee, because he blames himself for her death.
Yang-sun also meets by chance with the crown prince Lee Yun (Shim Chang-min), though she doesn't knows at the beginning and address to him as a guy from a privileged family. He's looking for two things, to his lost friend from childhood and the diary of the crown prince Junghyun to get rid of the Vampire that killed his father. When he meets Yang-sun he mistakes her with his friend at first since she's dressing as a boy but later he finds out she's actually a girl. From there a good friendship starts and what it looks like a love triangle.
We also have Lee Myung-hee, 120 years ago, and Choi Hye Ryung (Kim So-eun).Myung-hee was the first love of Sung-Yeol, she sacrificed herself to give him her blood so he could live when he was turn into a vampire. Now, Choi Hye Ryung is the daughter of the prime minister, she was a offered to Gwi at a very young age, for him to have a good position and money. Gwi now uses her to confuse Sung-Yeol due to she is the doppelganger of Myung-hee. But she would do anything to gain power, in order to protect herself from Gwi and his father, and live freely.
Meanwhile, the evil vampire Gwi (Lee Soo-hyuk) that resides in the royal palace since he and the founder, and the first king of the Joseon Dynasty Taejo, agree on working together on ruling the nation even with his descendents, now he uses his powers and political strategies to rule the nation to his pleasure and that's why he kills the princes or kings that tries to get rid of him.

First, we find Sung-Yeol as human, 120 years before the actual story begins. This explains and prepares us for the actual story that begins a few chapters later.
We also have his best friend the Crown Prince Junghyun (Lee Hyun Woo) he actually is one of the most named characters, despite his appearance is very short I really loved his performance and oh god this child has a beautiful smile. It was so bad that I could only see him so little.
And then the story begins. And we get to know the main characters.
Their performances were good, a bit dramatic as every good period drama, but spotless. Maybe I complain about Lee Soo-hyuk and Lee Jun-Ki, because sometimes their expressions and actions as vampires, looked very forced and over-acted.
I loved that from the beginning he knows she was a woman, and all that drama that happens in other doramas of girls disguised as men and the male protagonist comes to think he's gay or something because he feels attracted to her didn't happen. It was funny at first but not anymore.
Lee Jun-Ki as always, looked impeccable in his suits, his voice is amazing and he makes you melt together with his intense gaze. Maybe because of that he is one of my favorite actors. His stunts and fights, are all done by himself, which makes it more realistic and better. If you follow him on Instagram you can see that he upload pictures and videos of the recording place, his colleagues and even some scenes.
I must say that the effects and fight scenes in the first chapters were really good, too bad as the drama progressed there were details when editing, and perhaps by the rush of delivering on time, the quality was not the same.
Lee Yu-bi did a very good male role at the beginning of the drama. Although it was a little feminine, the way she talked and interacted with others was credible. And then they discover she's a woman, from there it was very obvious it was a girl dressed as man.
About Shim Changmin, it is the first time I see him in a historical drama and I loved his performance! Thumbs up! Perhaps his fake beard and mustache was the only thing that bothered me because it didn't look good on him, but he did a good job so is ok.
Kim So-eun also, excellent performance. Although she performed two roles, very different from each other, you could easily distinguish the characters. I especially hate the role of Hye Ryung. Well, that woman didn't deserve a happy ending. I bet it must be difficult to be offered to a beast as Gwi but girl...
Now, I was a bit disappointed with the performance of Lee Soo-hyuk. His voice and performance were very bland. Although he looked very good as a vampire, I can't denied that, it didn't cause me great impression, especially his death. Totally disappointing. If it was so easy, why they didn't succeed before?

The chemistry between the main characters was really good. This drama has a lot of romantic scenes and kisses. I loved the fact that the character of Yang-sun was straightforward with her feelings for Sungyeol, and she made Sungyeol leave Myung-hee from his heart and mind, and finally opened his heart to her.
The kisses didn't disappoint me! And yikes, Jun-Ki always has great kissing scenes. Sometimes I'm surprised how little Asian actresses react to kisses.
I am glad that there wasn't a love triangle. The character of the prince, realizing that Yang-sun was in love with Sung-Yeol, changed his attitude towards Yang-sun only to friendship, no love interest. Even at the end, I thought she would ended as a queen with him after Sung-Yeol died, but no. And Sung-Yeol also didn't developed feelings for Hye Ryung despite the big resemblance to Myung-hee. Only the first time he sees her gets confuse, but then it's quite obvious that they are not the same person, and he already has a Yang-sun in his heart.
One thing that bothered me was that they didn't show scenes between the king Lee Yun and queen Hye Ryung to prove their love, only the sacrifice scene at the end. But instead she had more scenes with Gwi, and even can you see Gwi depressed by her death in last chapters.
Hye Ryung gave a big change after she "falls in love" with the king, and for me it was very artificial, perhaps they didn't want to focus on that type of scenes on secondary characters. For me it's a part of history they could take advantage.
Now, I can't stop talking about a few secondary characters!
As Soo Hyang (Jang Hee Jin), even though she always had an unrequited love for his master Sung-Yeol, she did everything possible to help him, even putting her life at stake. I honestly thought she would die but it wasn't the case and I'm glad. Also Ho Jin (Choi Tae Hwan), this character gave me a good laugh and I love his unconditional loyalty to his master.
Another character that caused me impression was the best friend of Lee Yun, Noh Hak Yong (Yeo Ui Joo) his friendship with the king was memorable and as a vampire he was one of the best.
And what I liked the least was the end of the drama. Yes, the final. And as I mentioned earlier, after many attempts, killing Gwi was too easy. Explosives? Why they didn't think it before? And also the fact that Sung-Yeol was killed so stupidly. Sorry but it was stupid. Isn't he supposed to be a vampire and is really fast? then why he didn't go out or have the time to get out of the cave? That was a suicide.
What I didn't understand was that a year later Sung-Yeol magically appears and takes Yang-sun and disappear. Did she committed suicide? Or he resurrected? Or he was just unconscious under the cave and came back later and takes her? The point is, they didn't explain and leave it like that, and that was disappoint me.

Sinopsis:
Situado en una dimensión alternativa de la dinastía Joseon, Jo Yang-sun (Lee Yu-bi) es la hija de un noble cuya familia lo pierde todo cuando su padre es acusado de traición a la nación. Yang-sun comienza a vestirse como un hombre luego de que una shaman se lo recomendará a sus padres para que pudiera vivir, después de ser mordida por un animal salvaje y estar inconsciente por un tiempo. Más tarde se convierte en una vendedora de libros con el fin de ganar dinero para mantener a su familia. Ahí es cuando conoce a el erudito guapo y misterioso Kim Sung-Yeol, que trabaja en el Hongmungwan.
Kim Sung-Yeol (Lee Jun-Ki) es un vampiro, él está en la misión de matar a Gwi, un malvado vampiro que gobierna la nación a través de los miembros de la realeza sin el conocimiento del pueblo. Él está buscando el diario de su amigo muerto el príncipe heredero Junghyun, que tiene el plan secreto para matarlo, es ahí cuando decide contratar a uno de los mejores vendedores de libros de la ciudad para buscar el diario y es cuando conoce a Yang-sun. Él también es perseguido por la muerte de su primer amor, Lee Myung-hee, debido a que culpa a sí mismo por su muerte. 
Myung-hee fue el primer amor de Sung-Yeol, ella se sacrifico para darle su sangre a él cuando lo convirtieron en vampiro y así el pudiera vivir. Choi Hye Ryung es la hija del primer ministro, el la entrego a Gwi desde muy joven como ofrenda para él poder tener una buena posición y dinero. Ahora Gwi la usa para confundir a Sung-Yeol debido a su inmenso parecido a Myung-hee. Pero ella haría lo que fuera para obtener poder para así protegerse de Gwi y su padre, y poder vivir libre junto a su madre.
Mientras tanto, el malvado vampiro Gwi (Lee Soo-hyuk) que reside en el palacio real desde que él y el fundador, y primer rey de la Dinastía Joseon, Taejo hicieron un acuerdo en trabajar juntos para gobernar la nación, incluso con sus descendientes, ahora utiliza sus poderes y estrategias políticas para gobernar la nación a su placer, y es por eso que él mata a los príncipes o reyes que intentan deshacerse de él.
ALERTA DE SPOILERS!
Para ser honesta, soy un gran fan de Lee Jun-Ki! Por lo tanto, voy a tratar de ser muy objetiva en este review. Pero no puedo dejar de decir, ¡Dios mío! Me encanta como se ve con la ropa tradicional! Solo mirenlo! D:
Ahora hablando en serio, este dorama me dejo con una mezcla de emociones. Tanto buenas como malas.
Primero, nos encontramos con Sung-Yeol como humano, 120 años antes de que comience la trama como tal. Este hecho explica y nos prepara para la historia que comenzará unos capitulos después.
No puedo dejar de mencionar al mejor amigo de Sung-Yeol, el principe heredero Junghyun (Lee Hyun Woo), que es uno de los personajes más nombrados a pesar de que su aparición como tal sea muy corta, realmente ame su actuación y es que este niño tiene una sonrisa hermosa, me dio mucho dolor que solo lo pudiera ver tan poco.
Las actuaciones fueron muy buenas, un poco exageradas como todo buen dorama de época, pero impecables. Quizás me quejaría de Lee Soo-hyuk y Lee Jun-Ki, ya que en ocasiones sus expresiones y acciones al ser vampiros se veían muy forzadas y sobreactuadas.
Me encanto que desde el principio el supiera que ella era una mujer y no pasará ese drama que pasa en todos los doramas de chicas disfrazadas de hombres donde el protagonista llega a pensar que es gay o algo. Fue gracioso en un comienzo pero ya no más.
Lee Jun-Ki como siempre, se veía impecable en sus trajes, su voz es increíble y hace que te derrites junto con su mirada intensa. El transmite mucho al actuar y quizás por eso es uno de mis actores favoritos. Sus escenas de acción y pelea, todas son realizadas por él mismo, cosa que lo hace más realista y mejor. Si los siguen en Instagram podrán ver que subió vídeos y fotos del sitio de grabación, sus compañeros e incluso una que otra escena del dorama como tal.
Debo decir que los efectos y las escenas de peleas en los primeros capítulos fueron impecables, lastima que a medida iba avanzando el dorama hubieron detalles al momento de editar y quizás por el apuro ya la calidad no era la misma.
Lee Yu-bi hizo un muy buen papel de varón al principio del dorama. Aunque era un poco femenina, su manera de hablar e interactuar con otros lo hacia creíble. Ya luego que descubren que es una mujer, era muy obvio que era una chica vestida de hombre.
Acerca de Shim Chang-min, es la primera vez que lo veo en un papel de época y me encanto su actuación! Un aplauso para el. Tal vez su barba y bigote falso fue lo único que me molesto ya que no le lucian pero de resto fue una buena actuación.
También Kim So-eun, excelente actuación. A pesar de que realizo dos papeles, muy diferentes el uno del otro, fácilmente se podía diferenciar los personajes. Yo especialmente odie el papel de Hye Ryung. Y bueno, es que esa mujer no se merecía un final feliz. Si, debe ser difícil ser ofrecida a una bestia como lo era Gwi pero chica...
Ahora Lee Soo-hyuk si me decepciono un poco con su actuación. Su voz y actuación fueron muy monotoma. Aunque se veía muy bien como vampiro no me causo gran impresión, en especial su muerte. Totalmente decepcionante. Si era tan fácil, porque no lo lograron antes?
La química entre los personajes principales fue muy buena. Este dorama tiene una buena cantidad de escenas románticas y de besos, aunque yo hubiera querido mas. Me dejo muy satisfecha que el personaje de Yang-sun fuera directa con sus sentimientos hacia Sung-Yeol, en ningún momento dudo e hizo que él dejará a Myung-hee atrás y abriera de nuevo su corazón a ella.
Los besos tampoco me decepcionaron! Y uff, es que en Jun-Ki tiene muy buenas escenas de besos. A veces me sorprende lo poco que reaccionan las actrices asiáticas a los besos.
Me alegro que no hubiera un triangulo amoroso como tal. El personaje del príncipe al darse cuenta que Yang-sun estaba enamorada de Sung-Yeol, cambio su actitud hacia Yang-sun a solo amistad, sin ningún interés amoroso. Incluso al final, yo pensaba que ella quedaría como reina con él luego de que Sung-Yeol muriera, pero no. Y Sung-Yeol tampoco desarrollo sentimientos por Hye Ryung a pesar de su parecido a Myung-hee. Solo la primera vez que la ve se confunde, pero luego es bastante obvio que no son la misma persona y además ya el tiene a Yang-sun en su corazón.
Una cosa que me molesto fue que no mostraron escenas entre el rey Lee Yun y la reina Hye Ryung que demostraran su amor, sin contar la escena del sacrificio de ella al final, pero en cambio ella tuvo muchas más escenas con Gwi, e incluso podemos ver como Gwi se deprime por su muerte en los últimos capítulos.
Hye Ryung dio un cambio muy grande al "enamorarse" del rey y para mi fue muy artificial, quizás no querían enfocar escenas de ese tipo en personajes secundarios. Para mi es una parte de la historia que pudieron explotar.
Ahora, no puedo dejar de hablar acerca de varios personajes secundarios!
Como Soo Hyang (Jang Hee Jin), ella a pesar de que siempre tuvo un amor no correspondido hacia su amo Sung-Yeol, hizo todo lo posible por ayudarlo, incluso poniendo su vida en juego. Yo sinceramente pensé que moriría pero no fue así y me alegro. También el compañero de Soo Hyang, Ho Jin (Choi Tae Hwan), este personaje me daba mucha risa y me encanto su lealtad incondicional hacia su amo.
Otro personaje que me causo impresión fue el mejor amigo de Lee Yun, Noh Hak Yong (Yeo Ui Joo) su amistad con el rey fue memorable y su papel como vampiro fue uno de los mejores.
Y lo que menos me gusto del dorama fue el final. Si, el final. Y es que como mencione anteriormente, después de tantos intentos, matar a Gwi fue demasiado fácil. Explosivos? Porque no lo pensaron antes? Y también el hecho de que Sung-Yeol se haya sacrificado tan estúpidamente. Lo siento pero fue estúpido. Se supone que es un vampiro y es rápido, entonces porque no le dio tiempo de salir de la cueva? Eso fue un suicidio.
Lo que si no entendí fue que un año después vuelve mágicamente y luego Yang-sun y Sung-Yeol desaparecen. Ella se suicido? O el resucito? O simplemente estuvo inconsciente bajo los escombros de la cueva y volvió en sí mucho tiempo después y se la lleva? El punto es que no explican y lo dejan en el aire, y eso me decepciono mucho.
En fin, un dorama para mi que pudo ser mejor. Tenía una buena trama y la historia me engancho desde el principio. Lastima que el final me dejará deseando más.
