*DORAMAS* Surplus Princess

The Surplus Princess is a 2014 romantic comedy television series starring Jo Bo-ah, On Joo-wan, Song Jae-rim, and Park Ji-soo. This drama is actually a modern retelling of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, it aired on tvN from August 7 to October 9, 2014 on Thursdays at 23:00. Originally slated to run for 14 episodes, but the total number of episodes was changed to 10 eventually, due to low rating. 

This fact actually made me a little sad, because I was so into the story and you can actually see how the story is cut in the two last chapters.

However, it's the only negative thing I have to said about this drama. I loved the performances of everyone, especially Bo Jo-ah and Song Jae-rim, they made me laugh out loud more than a couple of times and also made me quite hungry. So I recommend, don't watch this drama if you don't have food around.

Another positive point about this drama were the illustrations and captions, they appear occasionally on the screen, they gave a special touch and were totally funny.

Synopsis:

Aileen (Jo Bo-ah) is a mermaid princess who is in love with Shi-Kyung (Song Jae-rim), a human celebrity chef. While recording a TV show next to the Han River, Shi-kyung hits his head and falls into the river, and Aileen stops him from drowning by kissing him underwater. Shi-kyung is pulled out from the water by Yoon Jin-ah (Park Ji-soo), an intern of his company, who is also in love with Shi-kyung. 

In order to meet Shi-kyung again, Aileen steals a magic potion from the male witch Ahn Ma-nyeo (Ahn Kil Kang), and is transformed into a human. It's only after her transformation that Aileen learns that she has 100 days to find true love, or else she will turn into bubbles. Ahn Ma-nyeo helps Aileen by setting her up with the fake identity of Kim Ha-ni, and sends her to live in the Surplus House with other people, most of whom are unemployed and searching for jobs. 

Among Aileen's new housemates is Hyun-Myung (On Joo-wan), Yoon Jin-ah's ex-boyfriend, that is trying to get a job at all costs. With her new friends to help her, Aileen vows to find a way to win Shi-kyung's love.

Surplus Princess es una comedia romántica del 2014, protagonizada por Jo Bo-ah, On Joo-wan, Song Jae-rim, and Park Ji-soo. Este drama es en realidad una versión moderna de La Sirenita de Hans Christian Andersen, que salió al aire en TVN desde 7 agosto al 9 octubre del 2014, los jueves a las 11pm. Originalmente programado para una duración de 14 episodios; pero el número total de episodios fue cambiado a 10 al final por su bajo rating. 

Este hecho realmente me puso un poco triste, porque yo estaba muy metida en la historia y en realidad se puede ver cómo se corta la historia en los dos últimos capítulos. 

Sin embargo, es lo único negativo que tengo para decir de este drama. Me encantaron las actuaciones de todos, en especial la de Jo Bo-ah y Song Jae-rim, ya que me hicieron reír a carcajadas más de un par de veces y tambien me dieron hambre. Así que les recomiendo, no ver este drama si no tienen comida alrededor. 

Otro punto positivo acerca de este drama, fueron las ilustraciones y las leyendas que aparecían de vez en cuando en la pantalla, le daban un toque especial y eran totalmente graciosas.
   

Sinopsis:

Aileen (Jo Bo-ah) es una princesa/sirena que está completamente enamorada de Shi-Kyung (Song Jae-rim), un humano y un chef muy famoso. Durante la grabación de un programa de televisión junto al río Han, Shi-kyung se golpea la cabeza y cae en el río, Aileen previene que se ahogue dándole un beso bajo el agua. Shi-kyung es sacado del río gracias a Yoon Jin-ah (Park Ji-soo), una interna de su empresa, que también está enamorado de Shi-kyung.

Para poder conocer a Shi Kyung, Aileen se roba la poción mágica del brujo Ahn Ma-nyeo (Ahn Kil Kang), y se convierte en humana. Lo complicado es que después de convertirse en humana se entera que solo tiene 100 días para encontrar a su verdadero amor, de lo contrario se convertirá en burbujas. Ahn Ma-nyeo ayuda a Aileen dándole la identidad falsa de Kim Ha-ni, y así comienza a vivir en la Surplus House, una casa para gente que está buscando empleo.

Entre los nuevos compañeros de casa de Aileen está Hyun-Myung (On Joo-wan), el ex de Yoon Jin-ah, que intenta conseguir a toda costa un trabajo. Con la ayuda de sus nuevos amigos, Aileen jura encontrar una manera de ganar el amor de Shi-kyung.
